“We believe that words are capable of creating something new within us, transforming us to thinking better and knowing better”

Poetry is one of the most powerful forms of expression that evokes feelings, sparks imaginations, addresses issues of significance in the society and a beautiful path filled with rhythm & riddles to a literate nation.

Seeing how poetry is so underrated in South Africa, The Spoken Word open mic Poetry Session initiative aims to provide young talented poets with a platform to express themselves without limits on a massive magnitude and foster development of the poets to one day become writers of great literature books. This initiative was established by a group of poets by the name of Spokenwordpoetry from Sefako Makgatho Health Science University (Medunsa) simply because of their mutual affection for poetry, literature and the diversity within their cultures, they decided to embrace their differences through poetry. Spokenwordpoetry with word they create, transform and ignite the world.

The event will be led by the well known Gautv News anchor/Reporter Boitumelo Penelope Mogale as an M.C alongside seventeen talented poets on the stage and music will be provided by special guest Nick Mathevula.. Tickets are available at @takalohlogi on twitter for as little as R50 per person please contact Itumeleng at 076 125 3577 or Kagiso 079 038 7369 for more information and queries.

This event is not the first of its kind to be hosted by Lamagia media/Events team, they’ve previously hosted in various places like Garankuwa, PTA CBD, Soweto, Polokwane library gardens, Vaal and so forth. The Spoken Word Open mic Poetry Session will be led by Spoken Word Poetry’s leader Itumeleng Maleka and Lamagia’s very own Nakedi Sefara. They believe that this initiative will not only provide a platform for poets to express themselves but it will also serve as an opportunity to create, transform and ignite their world locally, provincially, nationally and globally.
